In 1997, Mr. Pfister founded Armatec Composites Inc. creating a company dedicated to providing practical solutions to engineering challenges. Through Karl’s leadership and vision for future survivability requirements, Armatec has developed a strong customer base in North America and Europe. Armatec has gained a reputation as a world leader in passive survivability solutions. This encompasses seating systems, mine blast protection, armour and vehicle mobility.
In 2010 Armatec Survivability constructed a new manufacturing facility in Dorchester Ontario that was custom built to optimise the manufacturing processes and support on-going self-funded research and development.
Armatec currently employs 200 skilled employees.
Prior to forming Armatec, Mr. Pfister was Executive Vice-President of Operations at Diamond Aircraft Industries in London, Ontario; responsible for managing aircraft manufacturing operations.
Mr. Pfister previously worked at Grob Aerospace GmbH as a Mechanical Engineer. At Grob, Mr. Pfister was responsible for structural, aerodynamic and mechanical redesign of the Grob 115 aircraft to meet international standards for military training. He was responsible for a number of significant projects including establishing an on-site factory service support team for a Royal Air Force fleet of training aircraft and leading the structural and load engineering for the G520 Egret high altitude reconnaissance aircraft.
His professional affiliations include the National Defense Industry Association, London Manufacturing Council and the London Soaring Society. He is fluent in German and English and is an experienced and passionate glider and powered aircraft pilot.
Mr. Pfister’s engineering and management background is complemented by his machinist training and years of experience in re-building his own recreational aircraft.
